Evaluating Web Resources:
Who, What, When, Where, How, & Why



1. WHERE:
        The URL, or web “address”.

.com = a commercial entity. Anyone can use these.
.org = non-commercial entity. Organizations, clubs, or associations.
.edu = a school, college, or university.
.gov = government entities. Use of these suffixes is restricted.
.net = Internet network services.
.mil = military sites. Nobody gets these except the military!
.ca = Canada
.fr = France
.uk = Great Britain
.nl = the Netherlands
.jp = Japan
.au = Australia
.ch = China
.nz = New Zealand
.es = Spain
.it = Italy
.ie = Ireland


2. WHO:
        Authority.
            Who authored the page? What are his/her credentials, qualifications, or expertise?

3. WHAT:
        Content & Accuracy.
            What’s it about? Is there a bibliography or list of other sources?

4. WHEN:
        Currency.
              How current is the information? Date first created? Date last revised?

5. HOW:
        (Easily. Anybody can do it!)

6. WHY:
        Objectivity or Bias.
              Are the opinions slanted, trying to convince you of a viewpoint?
